How Kagelin sustains itself
Kagelin is free and open source, and the app stays that way. The part that costs real money to run is the hosted layer. Premium is planned to cover hosted extras (background calendar sync, live device mirroring); they aren’t built yet. It’s an optional subscription, and it’s what will pay for development. If you run your own copy or use guest mode, you never touch it.

Is it free?
Yes, to use. Every task, habit, focus, and calendar feature is free and needs no account. The app is open source under AGPL-3.0. Premium is an optional paid tier that only covers the hosted sync extras.
Do I need an account?
No. Guest mode is not invite-only and can be used anytime. It gives you everything offline, with your data kept on your device. You only make an account if you want to sync across devices.
When does it launch?
It is in preview now, opening to founding testers first. Guest mode can be used anytime, and you can join the list for cloud sync invites.
Is my data private?
Your data is yours. Guest mode keeps it on your device. Sync a registered account and what you write is encrypted, so we can't read it. Dates, priorities, and completion stay legible so reminders keep working, and your account's existence, email, and item count are never covered. You can also back up to a WebDAV server you own (Nextcloud, Synology), and leave anytime with an encrypted ZIP export or standard .ics files.
